The Puerto Sotogrande Vaporetto connects the marina by sea until 30 August

The Puerto Sotogrande Vaporetto continues to connect the different areas of the marina by sea this summer. The free water taxi service began operating on 1 July and will remain in service until 30 August, offering an alternative way to travel between some of the port’s main sporting, commercial, leisure and dining areas.

The initiative is aimed at residents, users and visitors to Puerto Sotogrande, who can use the service to get around the marina while enjoying a different perspective of the port surroundings. The route makes it easier to travel between several areas of nautical and social activity, while also allowing passengers to view the pontoons, boats and other facilities of the San Roque marina from the water.

Five stops in the marina

The Vaporetto route has five boarding and disembarkation points distributed throughout Puerto Sotogrande. The route includes the Control Tower, one of the port’s landmarks; the landing stage opposite the KE Sotogrande restaurant, between pontoons 3 and 4; La Ribera del Marlin; the Real Club Marítimo Sotogrande (RCMS); and the Sailing School, located at the Contradique.

The distribution of these stops makes it possible to link different areas of the marina and bring the service closer to some of the busiest locations during the summer months. In this way, the water taxi operates as an internal connection between Puerto Sotogrande’s sporting, dining, commercial and leisure areas.

In addition to its usefulness for getting around, the route offers a different way to discover the marina. The journey by water allows passengers to view the port’s different areas, boats, pontoons and residential zones from another perspective, all of which form part of the Puerto Sotogrande surroundings.

Free service timetable

During July and August, the Vaporetto operates from Tuesday to Sunday. It does not run on Mondays. The timetable is divided into two periods: 10:00 to 15:00 and 16:00 to 18:00, with a break between them.

The service is free for all users and will remain available until 30 August. It will therefore complete two months of operation during the summer season, coinciding with the marina’s busiest period.

The organisation of the service allows the water taxi to be used both for specific journeys between the different stops and to enjoy a tour of the port. Its operation complements journeys by land and provides an additional option for connecting Puerto Sotogrande’s different areas.

A service integrated into port life

At the helm once again this summer is Mark Houlbourne, who is responsible for making the journeys and attending to passengers throughout the day. His presence is part of the familiar image of this seasonal service, which makes it easier to travel around the marina each season.

The Vaporetto therefore combines a practical function with an aspect linked to the tourist experience. On the one hand, it helps connect strategic points around the port; on the other, it allows passengers to enjoy a different journey through the port surroundings. The service forms part of Puerto Sotogrande’s daily activity and the range of services available during the summer.

The water connection is particularly useful for those who need to travel between sporting areas, dining venues and leisure areas without making the entire journey by land. It also provides visitors with an accessible way to reach different points of the marina during their stay.

Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals

The free water taxi service operated by PST Puerto Sotogrande is linked to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular, the initiative is related to SDG 11, Sustainable cities and communities, as it promotes mobility and connections between the marina’s different areas.

It is also associated with SDG 8, Decent work and economic growth, due to its contribution to tourism activity and to the experience of those who use Puerto Sotogrande’s facilities and services during the summer season.

Lastly, the service forms part of SDG 17, Partnerships for the goals, as it is one of the services and activities that make up daily life in Puerto Sotogrande. Its operation adds to the marina’s offering and strengthens connections between its different areas of activity.

Until 30 August, residents, users and visitors will be able to continue using this free service to travel between the five stops on the route or to enjoy a different view of Puerto Sotogrande from the water.
