    More than 42,000 schoolchildren learn about biodiversity conservation in the Canary Islands with Loro Parque Group

    Loro Parque Group ended the 2025/2026 academic year with more than 42,000 students taking part in its environmental education programmes, which reached parks, schools, beaches and digital classrooms across the Canary Islands.

    Loro Parque Group ended the 2025/2026 academic year having reached more than 42,000 students through its various educational programmes. The figures consolidate its environmental education model in the Canary Islands and reflect the commitment of the education community to biodiversity conservation, animal welfare and the protection of nature.

    The initiative combines scientific outreach, direct experiences and active participation. In addition to activities held at Loro Parque and Poema del Mar, the programme brought conservation-related content to schools, natural areas and digital classrooms throughout the Archipelago.

    The model aims to turn education into a practical tool for conservation. To this end, the initiatives introduce students to animals and ecosystems, explain the threats affecting biodiversity and encourage participation in environmental awareness activities.

    Activities at Loro Parque and Poema del Mar

    During the 2025/2026 academic year, 9,411 schoolchildren took part in 254 educational visits to Loro Parque and Poema del Mar. In these settings, they were able to learn about different animals and ecosystems, as well as some of the main challenges facing biodiversity conservation.

    The visits form part of an initiative designed to help students understand environmental content through observation and direct contact. In this way, students can relate the knowledge they acquire to the protection of nature and animal welfare.

    Environmental education also extended beyond the Group’s facilities. Over the course of the year, 78 supplementary activities were organised, including awareness-raising campaigns and beach clean-ups, involving 5,386 students.

    These activities brought conservation into the students’ immediate surroundings. Marine pollution, waste management and the protection of ecosystems were addressed through practical experiences aimed at creating awareness and commitment.

    Travelling Cetacean Exhibition reaches 19,386 students

    One of the main pillars of the educational programme was the Macaronesia Travelling Cetacean Exhibition. During the academic year, it visited 65 schools and reached 19,386 students.

    The exhibition introduces students to the wealth of cetaceans found in Canary waters. It also allows them to learn about the main threats affecting these species and understand the importance of conserving their habitats.

    Its tour was not limited to educational centres. The exhibition also took part in cultural and outreach events such as FIMAR and MUECA, with the aim of bringing scientific knowledge and marine conservation to society as a whole.

    Loro Parque Group also took part in seven fairs related to sustainability, science and the climate. These activities were complemented by collaborations at solidarity events and activities linked to marine conservation.

    Videoconferences expand territorial reach

    Digital education also played a prominent role during the academic year. The education team held 24 videoconferences for 4,070 schoolchildren from 93 educational centres.

    This format expanded the geographical reach of the programmes, reaching schools throughout the Canary Islands, as well as students in Castilla-La Mancha and Aragon. Digital classrooms provided access to environmental outreach content without students having to travel to the Group’s facilities.

    The combination of face-to-face activities and digital resources made it possible to maintain an educational initiative in a range of formats. The model integrated visits, activities in the local environment, travelling exhibitions and remote meetings to bring conservation to a larger number of centres.

    The role of teachers in environmental education

    Teachers are another pillar of this initiative. During the academic year, 82 Teacher Information Days were held, attended by 3,409 teachers from 617 educational centres.

    These meetings allow teaching professionals to learn first-hand about the educational resources available. They also make it easier to incorporate content related to biodiversity, sustainability, animal welfare and conservation into school activities.

    Satisfaction reached 98% among participating teachers. According to the Group, this assessment reflects both the educational value of the activities and the work carried out by its education team.

    The Group’s Director of Administration, Cybell Kiessling, said the results show that “conservation begins with education”. In this regard, she highlighted the importance of children and young people learning more about nature, understanding the threats it faces and developing respect for animals.

    Kiessling added that the 98% rating from teachers demonstrates the model’s strength and educational usefulness. For the Group, the involvement of teachers and schools is essential to ensure that environmental content continues to have an impact in the school environment.

    A model connecting classrooms and conservation

    The 2025/2026 academic year’s figures reinforce an educational path that combines science, outreach, contact with nature and participation. The activities are designed to spark students’ curiosity and create environmental awareness from the earliest stages of life.

    Beyond the number of participants, Loro Parque Group highlights the model’s ability to connect students, teachers, families and schools with biodiversity protection. The aim is for younger generations to understand the value of conserving the planet and to become actively involved in this objective.

    “There is an education community that is increasingly committed to nature,” Cybell Kiessling concluded. She explained that the Group’s aim is to continue making scientific knowledge accessible to younger people and offer experiences that spark their curiosity and help them understand that they too can play an active part in conservation.
