A visit to strengthen the partnership

The first team and coaching staff of Balonmano Gáldar Gran Canaria visited Poema del Mar this week to learn at first hand about the conservation, environmental education and scientific outreach project carried out by the aquarium in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The day helped strengthen the partnership launched this season between the two organisations and highlight the values that connect sport with respect for the environment.

Poema del Mar is the sponsor of the Gáldar team and one of the world’s leading marine biodiversity institutions. With this meeting, the collaboration went beyond the brand’s presence on the team’s kit and became a shared experience for the players, coaching staff and directors.

Christoph Kiessling, vice-president of the Loro Parque Group, was present during the tour. He spoke with members of Balonmano Gáldar Gran Canaria and shared a day aimed at strengthening ties between the two organisations.

The aquarium explains its conservation work

Poema del Mar’s director of Biology, Ángel Curros, and the aquarium’s team of female educators subsequently guided the Gáldar delegation through the different areas of the facilities. During the visit, they explained the biodiversity housed at the centre and the work it carries out in conservation, research, animal welfare and environmental education.

The tour allowed the team to learn about the work carried out at Poema del Mar and gain an insight into the aquarium’s educational role. The activity also highlighted to the Canarian team the importance of responsibility and respect for the environment, two principles at the heart of the partnership between the two organisations.

The visit was conceived as a meeting point between two projects with different objectives but united by shared values such as teamwork, perseverance and commitment. In this respect, the sponsorship takes on a dimension linked to participation, learning and the creation of shared experiences.

The first handball team sponsored by the Loro Parque Group

Christoph Kiessling highlighted the significance of the Loro Parque Group’s support for Balonmano Gáldar Gran Canaria. “We are extremely proud to appear on the Balonmano Gáldar Gran Canaria kit. We are especially pleased to be able to accompany them on their trips to mainland Spain and in all the competitions this season,” he said.

The vice-president of the Loro Parque Group also noted that this is the first handball team sponsored by the group and welcomed the opportunity for its players and coaching staff to see Poema del Mar at first hand.

“For the Loro Parque Group, supporting sport, culture, leisure and the people of Gáldar is fundamental. We wish them every success,” Kiessling added during the day.

The club’s backing forms part of the Loro Parque Group’s commitment to Canarian sport and initiatives with a social impact on the island. The visit brought that collaboration into view and strengthened its connection with Gáldar, as well as linking sporting activity with outreach and sustainability.

The club takes on the role of ambassador

On behalf of Balonmano Gáldar Gran Canaria, its sporting director, Aday Sánchez, described Poema del Mar joining as the club’s sponsor as an honour. Sánchez described the aquarium as a hugely important brand within the Canary Islands’ leisure offering and as an organisation with a clear social and sporting commitment.

The sporting director also praised the visit to the facilities, describing it as “a real luxury”. In his view, being ambassadors for Poema del Mar, both through the first team and the youth academy, represents a responsibility that the club takes on with pride.

“This support encourages us to keep growing and to aim for ever higher goals,” said Aday Sánchez. His words reflect the importance the club attaches to a partnership that is not limited to financial support or brand visibility, but also incorporates shared activities and a direct connection with the aquarium’s project.

Sport, sustainability and Gran Canaria’s profile

Poema del Mar joining as a sponsor strengthens the structure and visibility of Balonmano Gáldar Gran Canaria. At the same time, it consolidates a partnership that connects sport, sustainability and Gran Canaria’s profile.

The partnership opens up new opportunities to develop joint initiatives related to healthy lifestyles, environmental education and youth participation. These areas broaden the scope of the collaboration and allow the relationship between the aquarium and the club to reach its younger players as well.

The day held at Poema del Mar thus offered an image of collaboration based on mutual understanding. The Gáldar team was able to learn more about the aquarium’s work, while both organisations strengthened a partnership that seeks to unite sporting activity with social responsibility and care for the environment.

The visit took place in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and forms part of the collaboration launched during the season between Poema del Mar and Balonmano Gáldar Gran Canaria.
